Title: Vegetation: Bullen Range Vegetation
Custodian: ACT Government, Department of Urban Services, Environment ACT
Jurisdiction: Australian Capital Territory
Abstract:
The map survey of Bullen Range was provided by WRM. The vegetation survey consisted of 1 hard copy map. The map was an original and was in good condition. The vegeation survey map was translated from an aerial photo, taken in 1968 from a height of 14 00 feet. The Photo was interpreted by J.Hick. The map was drawn by W.Crowle and G.Arneil in 1973.

Lineage:
Due to the cost of scanning, the map was transferred to a stable drafting film for the scanning process. Additional cleaning of a scan such as the removal of text, shades and boundary lines from the base map increases the cost of the procedure. This is why the transferred sheet had only the polygon data and tic points for geo-referencing. The transfer sheet was then delivered to AGSO for scanning. The contact for the scanning procedure at AGSO was Brian Pashley. Once the scan was completed, Arc exchange files (.e00) were sent to GISTDA. The Arc Exchange files were then imported into Arc View and converted to a Shape file (.shp). The exchange files have 5 fields, Shape, Area, Perimeter, Bull_ and Bull_id. This is the standard attribute format of the .e00 file. The shapefiles were then converted from Stromlo projection to Australian Map Grid (AMG) and renamed as Fbulle.shp. These files can be found in G:/GIS/Projects/Vegmap/Wholproj/Scanned/fbulle/Bullen.shp ` The shape files were then attributed with the existing legend information from the hard copy maps. Each polygon in the shape file was highlighted individually and attributed with the a map code. This was represented by a number or a string of letters (eg. P = E.pauciflora). The map code was used as the common Arc View field for joining the attributes of an Excel table. The Excel table is then saved as a .dbf (IV) and imported into Arc View. Once in Arc View the .dbf table is then joined to the shapefile attribute tables. The attributed theme was then converted to a shape file. The file can be found at:G:/gis/projects/vegmap/wholproj/scanned/ bullen4.shp
Positional accuracy:
The map was translated from an aerial photo and drawn in 1973. The shape file was created from a 1:8200 map. The map was traced onto a separation sheet in 1998 for scanning. Errors were corrected by hand digitising (0.004 RMSE). The shape files were created using ArcInfo and ArcView GIS software.
Attribute accuracy:
Attributes were taken directly off the hard copy map sheets.
Logical Consistency:
All polygon contain labels, any errors from scanning were corrected using hand digitising (0.004 RMSE)
Completeness:
Complete
