Title: Vegetation: Cotter Catchment Vegetation
Custodian: ACT Government, Department of Urban Services, Environment ACT
Jurisdiction: Australian Capital Territory
Abstract:
The Cotter Catchment Resource Map (CCRM) consists of four maps; the Cotter Vegetation Map, Bendora Vegetation Map, Corin Vegetation Map and the Yaouk Vegetation Map. The Maps were scanned from hard copy vegetation survey maps.

Lineage:
The cotter catchment resource maps were provided by WRM. The vegetation survey consisted of 4 hard copy maps covering the areas Cotter, Corin, Bendora and Yaouk. Investigations found that separation sheets existed for the map series and would be an improved method of automation. The separation sheets (sheets with just the polygon markings) were then obtained from Bill Crowle (ACT Forests) as the base for scanning. The separation sheets were then copied by commercial copiers (Expo Copiers - Braddon) and then edited. The separation sheets showed only the vegetation boundaries so polygons laying next to natural features (eg a dam) remained open. The polygons were closed off on the copied separation sheets by overlaying the copies onto the originals. In addition to closing the polygons off, tic points were identified on the copied sheets for geographic reference points. This will ensure that the automated surveys are correctly positioned in space relative to the true location. The final composite sheets (4) were then delivered to AGSO for scanning. Once the scan was completed, four Arc exchange files (.e00) were sent to GISTDA covering the whole of the cotter catchment resource survey area. The four Arc Exchange files were then imported into Arc View and converted to a Shape file(.shp). The shape files were then converted from Stromlo projection to Australian Map Grid (AMG) and renamed as cot1.shp, ben1.shp, cor1.shp and yao1.shp. These files can be found in G:/GIS/Projects/Vegmap/Wholproj/Scanned/fccrm/.
Positional accuracy:
The Shape file were derived from the original 1:25 000 map sheets. Separation sheets of the original maps were scanned and discrepancies were adjusted by hand digitising (0.004 RMSE) The Shape files were created using the ArcView GIS software.
Attribute accuracy:
Attributes were taken directly off the hard copy map sheets.
Logical Consistency:
All polygon contain labels, any errors from scanning were corrected using hand digitising (0.004 RMSE)
Completeness:
