Title: Noise monitoring in the ACT
Custodian: ACT Government, Department of Urban Services, Environment ACT
Jurisdiction: Australian Capital Territory
Abstract:
Ambient noise levels in and around Canberra are being measured from 1995 onwards. Under the Environment Protection Bill currently before the assembly [October 1997] the ACT Government proposed to introduce fixed zone noise limits. These limits will be prescribed in respect of various categories of land use. In the first instance the levels prescribed have been determined by reference to Australian Standard AS1055 -1989. The survey is being undertaken to determine whether these levels are appropriate for the ACT.
