Title: DUS Corporate Geographic Database - Reference Survey Control Marks
Custodian: ACT Government, Department of Urban Services, Customer Service and Information, Information Management Branch
Jurisdiction: Australian Capital Territory
Abstract:
ACTPLA is the authoritative source custodian of the Survey Control information for the Australian Capital Territory. The reference survey contol mark layers covered by this record for the ACT Department of Urban Services Corporate Geographic Database (DUS CGD) are modified versions of the tables SURVEY_CONTROL_MKS, REDUCED_LEVELS, GRID_COORDINATES and DEFAULT_CCORD_ZONE in the ACTPLA Spatial Database Management System (SDMS). The tables included in this record have been created to specification under the DUS GIM Strategy and is included in the DUS CGD created under that strategy. The DUS CGD creates a fully homogeneous and integrated set of core geographic information ACT which uses Oracle SDO. The CGD is a read only Oracle spatial database hosted within the ACT Government's production computing environment and is capable of being directly read by most GIS software. The CGD stores data in both the ACT Stromlo Projection and MGA94 projection for Zone55. The layers covered by this record are Survey_Control_Mark (a point layer which includes an instance for each survey control mark), Reduced_Level (an aspatial table recording height information for survey control marks), Grid_Coordinate (an aspatial table recording grid coordinates for survey control marks) and Coordinate_Zone (a polygon layer which identifies the location and extent of the coverage of each of the ACT default coordinate systems). Details of the attributes recorded for each table can be obtained from the DUS IM Branch in DUS (refer contact details).

Access constraints:
This dataset has been classified as 'Community Access' by ACTPLA, the custodian of the SDMS Survey Control Marks table. See Lineage below. Community access data sets in the DUS CGD database are available for internal use by agencies in the ACT Government, including presentation through ACT Government web sites. Uses beyond this require prior approval by the custodians of both the authoritative source data (ACTLIC), and Department of Urban Services.
Lineage:
The CGD Survey_Control_Mark table has been created from data sourced from the SURVEY_CONTROL_MKS table in the ACTPLA Spatial Data Management System (SDMS). The original data was exported from SDMS (Oracle 8.1.6) with a selection on the attribute Current_Lifecycle_Stage to eliminate historic data not required for DUS business purposes. This data was then imported into a translation table to enable changes to the modeling of the attributes and verification checks to be performed. To ensure that the data was logically consistent, this table was converted through FME to an ArcInfo coverage. This coverage was then converted back to Oracle Spatial using an Arc Coverage import in FME and further verification performed. A similar process was applied to the Coordinate_Zone layer which is an adaptation of the SDMS DEFAULT_COORD_ZONE layer. The two aspatial tables were created from SDMS exports and oracle scripting to modify the attributes to be stored with each in the CGD.
Positional accuracy:
A prospective user should contact the custodian of the source data set (ACTLIC) for details of the horizontal accuracy. No known variations have been introduced in the conversion process.
Attribute accuracy:
A prospective user should contact the custodian of the source data set (ACTLIC) for details of the attribute accuracy. No known variations to the stored values have been introduced in the conversion process.
Logical Consistency:
The source data is managed by ACTPLA to eliminate logical inconsistencies. In the case of the Coordinate_Zone layer geometry has been cleaned using ArcInfo software prior to transfer back into Oracle format. The clean tolerance used is 5mm. Regions are created to ensure the completeness of multipolygons.
Completeness:
The data is considered to be complete at the date of initial compilation only. Updates since this time have not been applied. NOTE: The attributes of Source_ANZLIC_ID, Feature_Type_Code and Feature_Instance_Metadata_ID have not been populated.
